Monday 23rd March
Morning Year 4, 5 and 6 🙂
Below are 3 tasks (an English, a maths and a wider curriculum) for you to have a go at today.
We will be starting the day at 9am with a Joe Wicks workout (the body coach) on his Youtube channel ‘PE with Joe’ – we hope you can join in too!
Once you’ve completed the tasks, comment on the blog with your responses and we will respond back at the end of the day.
Have fun,

English – I feel like the giant is trying to eat the purple creature
Fizzy and Grapes
Because it probably smells very foul and he is about to vomit
I think the character is an ogre because he is a sickly shade of green and has pointy ears a bit like Shrek (another ogre)
Maybe because he is going to eat the soup off of his foot
Probably happy because he is going to eat his food
Judging by the image, he isn’t very hygienic therefore flies are surrounding him
Ogre’s thought bubble – I can’t wait to eat my food! Purple Creature’s thought bubble – Yuck, it really smells in here! That ogre should clear up!
I like the ogre more because he seems to be a lot more comedic and careless unlike the purple creature who seems to express only one emotion in this picture: disgust.
The purple creature because if I was in that room that probably didn’t smell the nicest I would have a peg over my nose and want to throw up
New Title – An unpleasant dinner – I’ve chose this as a new title because the soup/stew in the picture doesn’t look like something you’d want served at your table.
I have done all the Englesh so do I post my answers on here?
Hello, it would be great to see your answers on here if you are able to.
Here’s a description that we came up with in school:
Short silver tufts stick up on the shrek-like creature’s balding scalp at random intervals. Below his hair and caterpillar eyebrows, lie two wary, bulging eyes which stare in amazement at the new cleanliness of his feet. Moving downwards, the ragged and stained clothes barely cover his gigantic body as his rotten fingers protrude out from his sleeves. Finally, we finish at his overgrown toenails that dip into the pool of water, just like a witch’s cauldron.
Maths – I couldn’t log into ttrockstars but I will try my best elsewhere in maths
1 – 36 5
2 – 10
3 – Lucy shaded 6/8 of the square which means she just doubled the original fraction to make it add up
My question in the style of these – Harry went to the shops to get a coke, the coke was priced at £1.67, Harry got 69p change. How much did Harry Pay?
Fantastic Isaac! It does look like you have been busy this morning with all of the activities and it is great to see you commenting. I hope you have enjoyed yourself. If you email my teacher email from a suitable email address, then I will be able to let you know your password for TTRS. My email is: miss.lowe@wfps.org.uk.
Have a good afternoon.
Miss Lowe
Ive found some of the shapes shown in the second picture for maths
Microphone = Sphere – Angle = Dihedral Angle – Number of faces = 1 – Number of vertices = 0 – Number of edges = 0
Speaker = Cube – All angles in a cube are right angles – Number of faces = 6 – Number of vertices = 8 – Number of edges = 8
Toblerone = Triangular Prism – Angle = ? – Number of faces = 5 – Number of vertices = 6 – Number of edges = 9
English- the little creature is washing the goblins feet. Dirty and tidy. The little creatures doing all these things because the goblins feet stink. I think the big creature is a goblin because he look like what a goblin would be described as. The goblins feet are in the bowl because he is washing them. I think the goblin is happy because he has clean feet for once. There are fliers around the goblin because he stinks. The purple creature- the goblin is revolting. The goblin- my feet are finally tidy. I like the purple creature best because he looks less revolting. I can best relate to the purple creature because I am tidy and hi get disgusted with revolting smells. The title is called pegged because the little creature has a peg on. I would call it goblin disgust because that’s what I can see in the picture.
English=I think the giant has made some foot soup for the purple creature because the creature has got a napkin for food.
The purple creature`s name is Dan and the other creature`s name is Bobby.
The purple creature has a peg on its nose because the smell of the soup must be horrifying, its cheeks are bulging because he is about to vomit.
I assume that the large creature is a ogre because a ogre is usually big whereas trolls are commonly small.
The large creature has his foot in a bowl because he is making some kind of dish for the purple creature.
He is feeling happy because in the picture he is smiling.
There are flies around him because he has probably not cleaned in a long time therefore he is very smelly.
I can relate to the purple creature because there are some foods that I don`t like.

This is great Lawrence! Well done for commenting on the blog – I have enjoyed reading your answers to the questions for literacy. I like that you have named the creatures and even thought of reasons for him having a peg on his nose!
Have a good afternoon.

There isn’t just one way you can group your items, you could do it with a pie chart to show which objects are their respective shape or colour (same also goes for a bar chart). My items were – twig, leaf, pebble, weeds, grass stands, a chip of metal and a feather. Feather is the object that I have chosen to do an observational drawing of, you can view it with this link./var/folders/jn/l_5bcv110wndw3bjsyk8cl2h0000gp/T/com.apple.iChat/Messages/Transfers/IMG_0516-1.jpeg
Maths1- I did 5 min of TTR
1-36
5
2-10
4- 6/8
My question- Jenny went to the shop and bought 20 sweets she ate half of them how many are left.
thank you for this i am looking forwards to doing this
Maths2-
A ball=sphere faces=1 edges=0 vértices=0
A box = cube faces=6 edges=12 vértices = 8
A marker= cylinder faces=3 edges=2 vértices =0
10-46=36
5 add 30=35
10 divide 2=5 sweets
2 more squares=3/4
Wider curriculum
I found a feather, twig, grass, leaves, stone, weeds, wood. You could put these into a lot of charts like bar chart shapes and so on. I made a butterfly with the objects I found
Hi Klea,
Looks like you’ve had a very productive morning. If you can take an picture of your butterfly email me on miss.taylor@wfps.org.uk – I would love to see it.
Speak to you soon,
Miss Taylor
suitcase=6 faces 8 edges
trampoline=2 faces 1 edge
wardrobe=6 faces 12 edges
1.10 less than 46 is 36.
5 more than 30 is 35.
2.So Teddy has 10 sweets and half of them are 5.
3.3/4 of 8 = 6 so Lucy shaded 2 more squares
Wow Elvin.Well done on these fantastic answers. It’s great to see that you have remembered our learning about fractions and can apply it to word problems.
Same again tomorrow!
Miss Chambers and Miss Clancy
pegged
In the picture the troll is having a foot bath.
The troll is called Andy and the purple creature is bubbles.
Bubbles has cheeks that are bubbling and has a peg on this nose because it stinks.
I think the troll is actually an ogre because he is big.
Andy has his foot in a bowl because it is swelling.
The ogre is happy because the water is tickling him.
There are flees around him because for them he smells nice.
I like Bubbles the best because he looks nice and funny.
I think Bubbles would suite me because he looks cool unlike the ogre.
I would call the picture stink because from were they are it would probably stink.
Some fab ideas Freya. Well done. I wonder why Andy’s foot is swelling!?
And also what your brother would be… Bubbles or Andy!
Same again tomorrow.
Miss Chambers and Miss Clancy
I just finished the english work,I’m about to do math.
Just finished the english work, moving onto the mathematics work now
AK -Year 6
In the picture I think that the ogre is washing his feet in some kind of abominable liquid which is leaving a stench in the room therefore, the purple creature has put a peg on his nose to block out the smell. The ogres name is Barry and the purple creatures name is Alvin. Alvin is wearing a peg on his nose because there is an awful smell in the room; its cheeks are bulging because it seems like he is about to be sick. I think the large creature is an ogre as it has the same features such as big elf ears and crooked teeth. Barry has his feet in a bowl because he just got a splinter on his heel from falling on a wooden surface so he is resting it in the liquid. He is feeling interested in the splinter and also careless how the smell is so bad and that Alvin is feeling sick from it. There are flies around Barry because the flies are attracted to the horrible smell he has created. I prefer Alvin because he seems dramatic as he looks like he is over exaggerating the stench he also looks like an interesting character.
Character description.
Barry’s warty colossal nose leans over his chin like a castle does over a human in addition to this, his bulging eyes look like they are going to fall out his eye sockets. Also his ragged aged clothes are ripped and damaged as if they had just been attacked by a tiger. Barry’s joyous smile compliments what seems as his bubbly personality and his different features. His crooked teeth look stained and murky as if they had never been cleaned.
Just finished English work
Well done Kai! You can email mrs.byfield@wfps.org.uk if you want to send her a photograph of your work. I’m sure she would love to see it. Check the blog tomorrow morning for tomorrows task.
Enjoy your afternoon.
Miss Taylor
I have done these activities and tasks but I would rather it remain anonymous ?
That is fine – you don’t need to post if you don’t want to. I hope you found the tasks interesting and enjoyed doing them though. If you would like to share any of your work with me, then you can send it to my teacher email; I would love to see. My email is miss.lowe@wfps.org.uk
Have a good afternoon.

Just trying to work out how to link alerts for new posts to my e-mails, this would be amazing for me and A-M to complete work. We are just about to do the work set for today via the blog, would you still like an update of the completed work?
Well wishes, N.
Hello, let me know if you have any troubles with the blog/emails.
You don’t have to update us with the work but of course feel free to if you want.
Enjoy!
Miss Chambers
English – An ugly troll is giving his heel a bath in radioactive swamp water in celebration that he lost his first tooth. The mutant tooth fairy is hovering over his shoulder and trying to exchange his tooth with glumpys (troll money) without throwing up.
Troll = Frumpy
Mutant tooth fairy = Muke
She needs to get close enough to the troll to get to his tooth and give him glumpys. Her cheeks are bulging because she’s about to throw up on him because of the smell however mutant tooth fairies throw up pencil sharpenings.
He is a troll. You can tell by the way his ears point up and the size of his nose and the hairy wart on it which has exactly 2 hairs. A hairy troll wart always has 2 hairs.
I have labelled all the properties of the shapes and completed the daily maths problem in my exercise book. I was also given a hard maths challenge by my mum:
I start with a number. I times it by 4. Then I multiply it by 6. I divide it by 3. I times it by the square root of 144. I add 17. I divide it by the number in a pair. I add a bakers dozen and finally minus 9.5. My answer is 900. What number did I start with?
Miss Lowe, can you solve it?
Lots of great detailed descriptions of the image Alfie – well done! I’m pleased to hear you have labelled all the shape properties in your exercise book. I can’t wait to see these when we are back at school 🙂
That was a very tricky problem! I hope you did it too. I got the answer 18.5. Am I right?
Enjoy your evening. Keep an eye out tomorrow morning for some more problems.
Miss Lowe
Yes you are right 🙂
Year 4 Cedar class
This is my work from today –
Q1. The giant is washing his feet and the bat is holding a towel and pegging his nose.
Q2. The bat is called Batty and the giant is called Crusher.
Q3. Batty has a peg on his nose because Crusher’s feet stink. Batty’s cheeks are bulging because he thinks he is going to throw up.
Q4. I think the large character is a giant.
Q5. Crusher has his foot in a bowl because he is washing his feet.
Q6. I think he is feeling happy because he likes to wash his feet.
Q7. There are flies around Crusher because he is stinky.
Q8. Crusher’s thoughts are “Time to wash my feet!” and Batty is thinking “Urgh his feet stink like mad!”
Q9. I like Batty the most because he looks like he would be funny.
Q10. I can relate to Batty the most because sometimes my dad’s socks stink.
Q11. The title is Pegged because the bat has a peg on his nose. I would call it The Giant Who Washed his Feet because this describes what he is doing.
Character Description –
A giant called Crusher has a ripped green top with stitches all over. He has really baggy, chocolate brown trousers that are too small for him and do not reach his ankles. If you look closely he has a green wart on his chin. The giant has only got one tooth and big eyes but tiny pupils as small as a seed. He has pointy ears poking towards the sky, pale brown hair and flies floating above him. Crusher has big finger nails and smelly feet. Also, he has a floppy, spot covered nose that goes down to his large, open mouth.
You use beautiful vocabulary and have thought about all aspects of the picture – especially the pointy ears pointing up to the sky!
Miss Chambers
Maths –
Q1. 10 less than 46 is 36, 5 more than 30 is 35.
Q2. Teddy has ten sweets.
Q3. She shaded 2 more squares.
My question – I have 12 sweets. I give 3 to my mum, 3 to my dad and 3 to my friend. How many sweets do I have now?
Super maths Isabella and a great question!
You would have … 3 sweets left?
Miss Chambers
I think that the Ogre is having a foot bath, and the bat has to wash his feet beacuse he has a wet wipe in his hand . The bat is called Fissles and the Ogre is called Hennry.
The bat has a peg on his nose because Henry is stinky. The bat’s cheekes are building up because he has trapped all the air up inside them. I think Hennry is an Ogre because he lives in a giant cave.
I think he has a foot bowl because he is washing his feet. He is feeling elated because his feet won’t be dirty. There are flies because he is stinky. I think Henry is smelly. The purple bat is small, funny and cute.
I think the bat is like me because i do not like stinky things. I think the title should be stinky.
Some great ideas Rose, I love the name Fissles and I’m intrigued about why you chose the name Henry! I think I would be elated if I was him too!
Looking forward to hearing more of your ideas over the next few days.
Miss Clancy
Hello Mrs Byfield,
Hope you are well. Mishka has done this blog. Below are her answers.
English :-
1 – I think the purple creature had come into the the larger creature’s cave so he got angry and now he wants to eat the purple creature.
2 – purple creature- Fuzzy
= larger creature- Stape
3- The purple creature has a peg on his nose because stape’s feet are so smelly. His cheeks are bulging because he can’t breathe ,he has got a peg on his nose.
4 – I think he is a ogre because it looks like he has never had a shower.
5 – His foot is in the bowl because he wants Fuzzy to clean his feet.
6 – Stape is feeling overwhelmed because he thinks that Fuzzy has came to be his servant.
7 – There are flies around him because maybe he smells really bad and flies don’t like nice smells. The ogre should clean up his house/ cave.
8 – Hello, and because you are here, you can be my servant from now on.- Stape
No way, why should I clean a stinky man ,who looks like a monster.- Fuzzy
9 – Out of the two creatures I would choose the purple creature because if I was there I would act the same as him. And no one would like that unpleasant smell.
10 – The common thing about me and the purple creature is that if I was in that room, it wouldn’t smell the nicest. I would definitely put a peg on my nose.
11 – The worst job ever, because the purple creature would never want to clean an ogre’s feet.
Challenge – Terrible , unpleasant hair
Huge , pointy ears
Uncleaned , dirty cave
Description:
The larger creature, who’s name is Stape , has broken clothes and he also looks like shrek be because they both have pointy ears. However his body is like a human but his face is like a ogre. His spots on his face instantly tell me that he does not have showers.
Maths:-
1 – 36
= 5
2 – 10
At the start the boy had 10 sweets because he says he has half the sweets.I doubled 5 and that equals 10.
3 – Lucy has shaded 6/8 of the square because she just double the original form. 3/4 = 6/8
Shapes – Faces – Edges – Vertices – Examples :-
1) Cone – 2 – 4 – 1 – Ice cream cone
2) Cylinder – 3 – 1 – 0 – Glass bottle cylinder shape
3) Sphere – 0 – 0 – 0 – Ball
4) Square based pyramid – 5 – 6 – 5 – Upside down flower pot
5) Cube – 6 – 9 – 7 – Dice
6) Triangular Prism – 5 – 7 – 6 – House roof
7) Tetrahedron – 5 – 5 – 4 – A photo of a Pyramid
8) Cuboid – 6 – 9 – 7 – Tissue box
Wider curriculum :-
Curved – leaf, flower petal, stone, insects
Straights – stick, flower stem, grass, insects
Both – butterfly (made out of stick & leaf), grass, insects.
Thank you Mansi
Dear Mishka
Some great inference here – you have worked out all that information just from a picture. That shows me you are really thinking deeply.
I’m so glad you can recognise 3D shapes so effectively. That’s a key Y5 skill.
Mrs Byfield
