Wednesday 25th March – Year One
Hello to Y1 adults and children, we hope you have been able to enjoy the warm weather even if it’s from the comfort of home.
Life has changed again since we planned our lessons so we are more aware than ever that the children may be feeling a little befuddled and out of sorts. Please take time to discuss this in a way that gives the children a sense of calm and hope. We would naturally do this in the class and take a few moments (not too long!) to explore our feelings. Then onto the day!
Activity 1 PE with Joe Wicks – youtube at 9am
Activity 2 Phonics task
Activity 3 Maths
Today we are using our knowledge of 2s 5s and 10s.
On a piece of paper draw a simple bag with 5 beans in it (just a round shape with 5 small round shapes inside. This is 1 times 5. Now draw another bag, also with 5 beans inside. Now you have drawn 2 x 5.
Can you use these skills to draw:
2 x 2 – that is 2 bags with 2 beans in each. How many beans have you got altogether?
4 x 2 – 4 bags with 2 beans each. How many altogether?
2 x 5 again – just to check understanding from the beginning task.
3 x 5
4 x 5
See if the children can count in 2s and 5s rather than count the beans.
Can you make up some of your own? (only work with multiples of 2 or 5 or 10)
Dynamite
Can you draw
5 x 3 Does it look different to 3 x 5? What do you notice?
5 x 2 Does it look different to 2 x 5? What do you notice?
Singing – try the hymn from yesterday!
Break
Activity 4 Literacy
Read a few poems from MIchael Rosen )or look at video.
Oh Dear by Micheal Rosen.https
If you do have any outdoor space, even just opening a big window when it’s warm, but ideally going outdoors we are going to write a ‘senses poem’. We can write a poem about how the weather feels and any sounds that we might hear. Poems don’t have to rhyme. They usually have short lines and don’t have to even be full sentences.
Lunch
Can you help to make some lunch or tea with your family? Can you try to use some BSL like ‘Please’ or ‘Thank you!’
Afternoon
Draw a alien that you would like to be a friend. What will it look like? Can you give it a name? Have fun!
The Year One Team
Thank you so much year 1 team, such manageable and fun activities. Really appreciate all that you are doing for us during these uncertain times!
We are all such a good team together, children, parents, WFPS staff and our wider community!
Hi Year 1 team. Thank you for the great tasks & phonics lessons.
Rosie’s loving maths & when I played her the first phonic video she smiled, sat down & did some of it all by herself!!
And the bean planting has gone down really well!
Thank you ?
Well done Rosie, little and often is the best way with phonics! Keep it up
Mrs Felstead
Great stuff, Thank You x
Thank you Keziah and Krista!
We enjoyed the maths today, it really helped to understand ‘lots of’.
We enjoyed writing some garden poetry with friends through FaceTime! We will send you the finished poem ASAP.
We also planted and started our bean diary- oh and we even managed to fit in phonics!!!
We spent the rest of the day playing in the garden and with our toys indoors.
Thank you love Flo
Great! Sounds a lovely and busy day. Glad you are enjoying all the activities and having time to play and enjoy the sunshine Flo!
