Reception 20th April
Welcome back,
I hope you all had an excellent few weeks with your families. This week is due to be sunny and warm so you could do you daily exercise outside. Joe wicks has plenty of child friendly exercise videos on his YouTube channel, the Five Minute Move series is very good.
We are still learning from home so let’s focus on some online safety today. This is a poem from the Safer Internet Day back in February called This is me! It starts with some simple questions that you can talk about at home and the poem follows after. Once you have read the poem, you can discuss the following points:
Can you remember some of the things we use the internet for?
Can you think of any of your own?
What is the key message from the poem?
You can access the resources for this here: https://www.childnet.com/ufiles/This-is-Me-poem.pdf
Literacy: Initial sounds
Collect five of your favourite toys from around your house. Can you hear and say the initial sound of each one. I have a piece of Lego and the initial sound is ‘l’. For a challenge, ask somebody else in your house to choose another five objects.
Another fun game is to think of a sound or use the initial sound from your name. Can you find three objects that have the same initial sound? I used ‘g’ from Miss Goodswen and I found a grater, glove and glue. What did you find?
Maths: Halving
Halving is to divide into two equal groups.
For this you will need two plates and ten of the same object, this can be cereal, grapes, Lego etc.
Starting with four objects, can you divide these equally between two plates? Model placing one on each plate at a time until there are none left. Start over but this time model the mathematical language.
“I have 4 grapes” divide them between the plates, count the grapes on each plate, are they equal? “half of four is two”
Repeat with 2, 6 and 8 objects. Try 10 objects for a challenge.
Have a wonderful day,
Miss Goodswen and Mrs Hughes
