Tuesday 21st April – Years 4/5/6

UPDATE: The teachers all agreed that yesterday’s White Rose question 3 was quite tricky! The White Rose website does have a full set of answers. I have saved their solution at the bottom of the page.

Hello everyone and hope you all slept well and are raring to go this morning. This is the view out of my window just now; I’m finding that the bright sunlight and blue skies really helps my mood. Sunlight gives us much needed Vitamin D which we all need after a long winter. Have you noticed how bright the leaves look against the sky? They are almost fluorescent. (Extra challenge – can you find a definition for fluorescent?)

As usual we start with Joe Wicks at 9am. I am beginning to feel a little fitter – how about any of you?

We then have a literacy and a maths task for you to complete.

Our wider curriculum task today is geography based and I hope that you will all create your own maps. If you email them to me (mrs.byfield@wfps.org.uk) then I will post them on the blog and even put the best ones on Twitter!

I’d also like you to think about your wellbeing (using the newspaper article) and what 5 things you can do during lockdown to improve your happiness. Sycamore Class (and anyone else!) you might like to do our Rainbow Breath or Melting exercises.

All the best for a fun day’s learning.

    Who: The National Trust
What: Woodland sounds help people relax
Where: In a laboratory. No town was named
Why: Because new research showed woodland sounds help people to relax
When: There are no details about when it happened

    Reading takes away stress
Reading can help to reduce stress and anxiety. New research by the book shop Waterstones shows that people feel that reading can take their mind to imaginary places. The study, which took place last September in Northampton, was set up to find out if people felt calmer when reading.

Hi Isabella. Fantastic work! I love your article and you have included all the 5 Ws and a headline. Well done. Your answers to our challenge are correct, but have another look at the ‘when’ for me. Is there something in the piece that gives you an idea? It doesn’t have to be an exact date..

I loved page 14 on the Week Junior because solving the mystery of the holes in the T Rex skull was interesting. I think the scientists used an alligator as a test for their theory because its a big reptile that still alive so it is a good test.

    What-Woodland sound helps us relax.
when- It doesn’t tell you when it happened.
    who-The National Trust.
    where-in a laboratory.
why- because a new research told us that woodland sounds help us relax more.

MUSIC STUDY FOUND OUT THAT MUSIC HELPS US RELAX MORE

A few days ago a music study found out that music helps us relax more. This was proven by a test were one person was listening to music and the other was having a walk. The test results were the person who was listening to music was 40% more relaxed than the person who was having a walk. This proves that the more we listen to music the more we will be relaxed. If you are wondering what music helps you relax more another test was made and it proved that classic and jazz music relaxes us more than rock and pop. Therefore if you listen to music more it will be better for yourwell being and you’ll be more relaxed.

    1. The article is about a study undertaken by the National Trust – on 600 people – to see if we feel more relaxed listening to woodland sounds (such as birdsong, water and wind), meditation or silence.
    2. It is not clear from the article when it was written.
    3. It is focussed on the National Trust however the study is aimed to reduce people’s stress, so it is about all people with stress.
    4. It is about the 28,000 square kilometres of woodland in the UK.
    5. The article aims to encourage people to enter woodlands in order to reduce stress.

      Relaxing
Relaxing is good for your body

Relaxing is good for your body because it helps you unwind and be calm. I like reading when I want to relax. Instead of a fact book I like reading fiction because it draws me in. I domit all times but I do it most near bedtime. Doing it on my own is good because I can think about what I am reading. Another thing I like is listening to music, but I like making it more because I am concentrating on that and blocking out other things around me.

I made up some number sequences –
      1. Adding 2 and then multiplying by 4
      2, 16, 72, 296

      2. Adding 3 then multiplying by 6
      3 – (3+3) x 6 = 36
      (36+3) x 6 = 234
      (234 +3) x 6 =1422
      That’s a lot of maths!

    Woodland sound article
What- It was about what sounds help you relax such as forest noises, silence and meditation sounds.
When-? I do not know what you mean because there were no dates.
    Who-600 people joined a study.
Where-Test were done in a laboratory.
Why-To make people go into the woods more, to help them relax.

    The Power Of Meditation
A year ago, 20 children went to a meditation class, and they aged 6 – 10 years old.
The children that went to the group, were very hyperactive and needed to calm down and relax.
Two teachers watched the children from the beginning of the class to the end.
When the lights went down during the last 10 minutes of the session, 1/2 of the class were asleep.
This showed that meditation classes are very useful for children that are hyper!
Also the teachers told parents the children fell asleep in the class, and the parents told the teachers that many of the children slept really well that night.
