Reception Tuesday 21st April
Good Morning,
I hope you all enjoyed the sunshine yesterday from your windows. Joe Wicks is still providing us with some daily exercise on his YouTube channel but if you want something a little different try GoNoodle – Banana Banana Meatball. This is one of our favourites in school. Here is a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ9q4U2P3ig
Maths: Halving
Yesterday you had a try at dividing some objects into two groups. For a challenge today, can you try halving up to twenty items. Here are some questions:
What is half of 5 and how do you know?
What is half of 10 and how do you know?
What is half of 20 and how do you know?
Here is my chocolate bar. I have eaten half. How many squares are left? You might want to draw this at home and use some objects to support.
Remember to use the language “half of __ is __ ”
Handwriting:
In your packs there is a piece of paper with all of the letters of the alphabet in the handwriting we use at school. It has been a while since we have practised our handwriting so can you choose five letters to practise yourself. Afterwards, try and write your name in your neatest handwriting.
Literacy: Poem
Below I have added a poem for you to read with an adult. I have also attached a voice recording of myself reading this. Can you listen for any rhyming couplets you hear? What makes you happy? With support, can you write your own verse?
Don’t forget you can send your work to your teacher:
Miss.goodswen@wfps.org.uk or Mrs.hughes@wfps.org.uk
Have a great day!

Happy Poem by James Carter
Happy as a rainbow
happy as a bee
happy as a dolphin
splashing in the sea
Happy as bare feet
running on the beach
happy as a sunflower
happy as a peach
Happy as a poppy
happy as a spoon
dripping with honey
happy as June
Happy as a banjo
plucking on a tune
happy as a Sunday
lazy afternoon
Happy as a memory
shared by two
happy as me …
when I’m with you.
Thank you for these activities.
Me and Ella have spoken about rhyming words and things that make her happy. We came up with this together.
Happy is rainbows in the sky,
Happy is sparkles on my eye,
Happy is wearing my Elsa dress,
Happy is painting, making a mess.
I love the rainbow and I know you love painting Ella. Well done.
Charlotte’s thought about her happy things and we made a verse too:-
Happy as a rainbow
On a sunny day
Happy is people being kind
And letting everyone play
🙂
I love that you got a rainbow in your poem. Well done Charlotte.
Jenson and Bailey did a verse each around things they like :
Happy as a basketball
Bouncing on the floor
Happy as a sunny day
When I shoot and score
Happy as a snowman
Sledging in the snow
Happy as a Christmas tree
Playing with Lego
Jenson loves playing basketball and Bailey loves Lego 🙂
Wow! These are amazing! Well done Jenson and Bailey.
Maths
Andi really enjoyed maths and we were able to find half of 2,4,10,20
Literacy
Happy as a bee
Flapping it’s wings
Happy as a tree
When the sun comes out
Andi’s going to be happy
when he comes back to you
We will be SO happy to see you all too.
Happy is playing with my sister
Happy is my space hopper
Happy is making a bug house
Happy is Easter bunny chocolate
We discussed rhyming words and we tried to get whopper incorporated to rhyme with hopper but Joshua was adamant his poem stay as was!
This took all my will power not to intervene and make things rhyme 😉
Well done Joshua- great ideas! (Well done for not changing it too.)
Ethan has enjoyed the activities today…
Happy as a house
Like the people inside
Happy as a garden
Like the flowers outside
Lovely Ethan. Well done!
Elsbeth’s happy poem:
Happy is eating icecream,
Happy is going to the beach,
Happy is swimming in a pool,
Happy is going to school.
