Wednesday 22nd April – Years 4/5/6
Hola Cedar, Rowan, Sycamore, Hawthorn, Beech and Larch,
Your daily tasks are posted below. I have also put the direct links in the tasks at the bottom of the post so you can click them and it should take you directly there. We really enjoyed receiving your writing, songs, maps and reading your comments on the blog.
We will be using a range of amazing resources that have been created for us to make learning from home a little easier. All of the following websites have daily lessons and you can select your year group and work through. We would suggest working though them in order.
We are hoping the children will need less support from an adult through the use of these resources too. You will need to pick lessons for the children though please, rather than giving the broad overall website.
The resources are:
White Rose
https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/
National Oak Academy
https://www.thenational.academy/
BBC Bitesize
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/dailylessons
If you particularly like any of these resources you can complete these as your daily lessons. Your teachers would love to see the work you are completing at home. You can email them direct using these emails.

I have already finished my book!
Good morning Amy. First to post today! What did you read? Would you recommend it, and if so to any particular age group and why? Maybe instead try the literacy comprehension challenge. You just need to follow the steps on the blog. Have a good day. Mrs Bacon 🙂
9 x 7 > 8 x 7
48/2 < 48/4
300 x 2 = 20 x 30
1500 – 565 = 935 (more boys)
For the third one I was very confused and couldn't work it out.
Well done Isaac, just check the second calculation – what are the answers to 48 / 2 and 48/ 4?
For the second question, well done you’ve completed the first step and told me how many boys there are = 935
Now can you work out how many MORE boys than girls there are? What’s the difference between the number of girls and the number of boys?
Finally for question 3, I will give you a clue and see if you can work out the rest – ‘Leon’s number is 7 more than Sophie’s’ and my clue is that the pink bar that is shown represents 14 (2 lots of 7). Can you work out the rest now?
Well done!
For the solar system lesson I will find a track and sing along to it after writing some lyrics, I will show all of you when its done.
Isaac, you always have such exciting ideas and it’s been fabulous to see you respond to the blog so much every day!
I would love to hear your song- you know how much I love science!!
Miss Chambers
Maths
9×7 >8×7
48/2 >48/4
300×2=20×30
1500-565 = 935
935-565 = 370 There are 370 more boys
Mr Patels number is 42. If leo’s number is 7 more than Sophie’s then using the bottom diagram Sophies 1/3 number must be 14 therefore Mr Patels number is 3 X 14 = 42
Hi Olivia. Brilliant maths. Well done- all correct . Mrs Bacon 🙂
Maths I did 5 min of ttr and did white rose also I have done maths bot
1. 9*7 > 8*7
48/2 > 48/4
300*2 = 20*30
2. 370 more boys than girls in the school
2. The number that Mr Patel wrote on the board is 42
Fantastic, Klea. All correct. Well done for trying maths bot too. Mrs Bacon 🙂
English
I went on to National Oak Academy and picked a challenge i answered the questions and got them all right
That’s great, Klea. Will you try some Science this afternoon? I think I should try to learn all the planets in order too! Mrs Bacon 🙂
Maths
1. 9×7>8×7
48÷2>48÷4
300×2=20×30
2. 370
3. 1/2 of Mr Patel’s number – 1/3 of Mr Patel’s number=7
So 1/6 of Mr Patel’s number=7 and 6×7=42
Great maths, Cadi. I like that you have clearly shown how you calculated no.3 too. That was tricky. Mrs Bacon 🙂
Maths
9×7>8×7
48/2>48/4
300×2=30×20
935 boys were in the school
Mr patel’s number was 42
Hi Freya. Great maths. Just check you have completed all parts for no.2 for me. These ‘wordy’ questions we need to keep going back to, and make sure we have done all that’s asked. They want to know ‘How many more boys than girls..’
Enjoy your day. Mrs Bacon 🙂
MATHS
1. 9*7is bigger than 8×7 48/2 is bigger than 48/4 300*2=30*20
2. There are 370 boys than girls.
3. Mr Partel’s number is 42 because half is 21 (Leon’s number)and -7 is 14(Sophie’s number) and 14 is a third of 42.
Brilliant, Sulaiman. All correct. Well done. Mrs Bacon 🙂
I have done the oak academy I think it was very good. I would love to do it again.
That’s great, Eleanor. Glad you enjoyed it. Mrs Bacon 🙂
Mercury(is the closest planet to the sun, is the 2nd hottest planet and it takes 88 day to orbit the sun), Venus(The 2nd planet from the sun, it is about 90 times more massive than Earth’s atmosphere and is one of the hottest planets) , Earth(5th biggest planet, 3rd PLANET FROM THE SUN and, IS THE LONELY PLANET WITH ), Mars(MARS, WHICH IS THE 4th PLANET FROM THE SUN, IS HALF SIZE OF EARTH; SOME PEOPLE SAY THAT THERE WERE SEAS ON MARS JUST LIKE EARTH), Jupiter(.JUPITER IS THE BIGGEST AND STORMYEST PLANET. IT HAS A RED SPOT WHICH IS A WINDY STORM, IT HAS LASTED FOR 340 YEARS), Saturn(SATURN IS KNOWN FOR IT’S RINGS WHICH ARE MADE WITH GAS AND ASTROIDS. IF THERES A OCEAN BIG ENOUGH TO FIT SATURN, IT WOULD FLOAT BECAUSE of ALL THE GASES, THAT ARE IN SATURN, ARE NOT A LOT), Uranus(URANUS IS FAMOUS FOR ROTATING ON IT’S SIDE; IT HAS RINGS LIKE SATURN’S BUT SMALLER. IT TAKES 84 EARTH YEARS. URANUS AND ARE icier THEN GASY), Neptune(NEPTUNE ,THE LAST PLANET FROM THE SUN, IS ONE OF THE WINDIEST PLANET;IT HAS SPOTS AND STORMS LIKE JUPITER.ITS 3.9(ABOUT 4)TIMES BIGGER THAN EARTH).
Wow, Sulaiman. You’ve been busy. I think you have given us all a great Science lesson. Well done. Did you learn the names in order too? Mrs Bacon 🙂
I knew you would like this task Sulaiman! Have you seen this video from Tim Peake?
https://www.stem.org.uk/news-and-views/news/launching-our-free-home-learning-support-children-aged-4-19-video-tim-peake
There are lots of activities from Tim Peake on the website too.

Miss Taylor
I would advise you to look at the National Oak Academy it is very good well at least I think it is because when I went onto the Maths subject I got all the quiz’s and questions right and the teacher who does the lesson really makes it understandable.
That’s brilliant, Emmie. It’s also always good to have a go whenever you get some spare time, and build up your maths skills. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Great work. Mrs Bacon 🙂
That is great to hear Emmie we will be using these much more from now on 🙂
Miss Spaven
Is the national oak academy supposed to be on newspapers for year 6? On the sheet it says setting description but I don’t know if that is for another year. Should I do the other English activity that is there if it doesn’t work or should I just do the newspaper one?
Hi Polly,
It is a newspaper for year 6 yes the blog post was just an example of how to access it.
No worries if you didn’t do it this week as we will be using this website much more from now on so you’ll have plenty of opportunity.
Thanks
Miss Spaven
Science
There are 8 different planets rotating around the Sun
who was made by these satellites becoming a massive star
First in the line is Mercury which hasn’t got any moons or any rings
next is Venus which is the second brightest natural object in the sky
it was named after a roman Goddess of love and beauty
the Earth used to have dinosaurs but know it is our turn
it also has a powerful magnetic field
Mars is next and rocky and red
Jupiter is massive and can never become a star
Saturn is brown gassy and could not be tread
Uranus is a gas giant it also has rings
Neptune is the most distant planet and has the faintest rings
Great work, Klea. You’ve learnt so much about planets! Did you try to make a song with some of these facts? Mrs Bacon 🙂
I think I will probably do the other sheet about reading an extract from a book.
Great, Polly. Let us have a summary of what you’ve read, and your prediction of what might happen next…Mrs Bacon 🙂
Shall I post the chapter and name of the book and then the questions and answers?
The chapter is rather long….;)
Hi Polly. Maybe just share the name of the book and author, a little of what it’s about and your prediction of what might happen next? It doesn’t have to be too long at all. Also, is it a book you think other children at school would enjoy? Would you recommend it? Mrs Bacon 🙂
Hi Polly- replied above. Mrs Bacon 🙂
Maths
1. 9*7 > 8*7
48/2 >48/4
300*2 = 20*30
2. 370 more boys
3. The number is 42 because 1/2 of 42=21 and 1/3 of 42=14, so 21 is 7 more than 14.
Arithmetic

I have done the three daily lessons on BBC Bitesize. English was learning about verbs, Maths was rounding numbers up and down in tens, hundreds, thousands, and tens of thousands and Science was about light sources. I had to do some little experiments for this like shining a torch at different objects to see what happened.
Hi Isabella. Wow, great work this morning. I love that you conducted your own Science experiments too. Did you find any translucent, transparent or opaque objects? Mrs Bacon 🙂
Maths
1. 9*7 is bigger
48/2 is bigger
300*2=20*30
2. 370

2.There are 570 more boys than girls
3.Mr patels number is 42
Hi Ava. I hope you’re having a good day. Super maths, Just check no2 for me please- I think it may just be a typo of one digit. Enjoy the afternoon. Mrs Bacon 🙂
Hi Mrs Bacon I just read your message I finished my book the star outside my window which was really good and I am now reading the creakers which is also a great book and yesterday I finished my school book with my work in it.i hope you are having a nice day I have now finished my science and would like to send a picture of todays work do you know how.
Hi Amy. It’s great to hear you have been doing lots of reading. I love reading too and find it very relaxing. I am having a nice day, thank you for asking. A bit of sunshine helps too! I’m missing school and really looking forward to getting back to ‘normal’ and seeing everyone. If you send your work to mrs.byfield@wfps.org.uk then we can access it.
Enjoy the rest of the day. Mrs Bacon 🙂
for the solar system, I drew the planets and named them in order and then wrote a page of facts about them I found out that all of the planets are named after a good except Earth. I have successfully completed all the tasks today.
Hi Poppy. Well done. That’s a great fact about planets and gods too. If you’d like to share your work you can always email it in to Miss Spaven or Miss Lowe (their email addresses are above on the blog task- no pressure to do so 🙂 !). I hope you have had a lovely day. It’s nice when the sun is shining isn’t it? Mrs Bacon 🙂
I had a great time learning thank you to all teachers
I had a great time learning thank you to all teachers.

science
This is a solar system song
The sun is a star in our solar system
It shines a golden ray beyond our reach
A place in space so far away
Eight planets revolving dusk till dawn
Mercury is first in line
Venus is known for its bright shine
Earth a world that's yours and mine
Now it brings us to Mars the fourth in line
Jupiter so big indeed
Saturn the one who has a ring
Uranus is greenish blue
Neptune is very far
Now you know where the planets are
Good afternoon, Eduard. Great work! I think your solar system song is brilliant! All maths correct-but can you just look at the part of question 1 48/2 and check your answer for me? Enjoy the afternoon. Mrs Bacon 🙂
Mercury – is the smallest planet in the Solar System. It is the closest planet to the sun. Mercury’s temperatures can go between -173 Celsius at night to 427 Celsius during the day.
Venus- is the second planet from the sun. It is the second brightest object in the sky. Venus is hotter than Mercury despite being further away from the sun.
Earth- is the third planet from the sun. 70% of the Earth’s Surface is covered in water. Earth is the only planet that wasn’t named after a Greek or Roman god or goddess.
Mars – is the second smallest planet in the solar system. Mars is sometimes called the Red Planet because of the brownish red color of its surface. A year on Mars lasts 687 Earth days.
Jupiter – is the fifth planet from the sun and the largest in the Solar System. It is the fastest spinning planet in the solar system.
Saturn – is the second largest planet in the solar system. It has 62 moons. It is best known for the bright, beautiful rings that circle its equator.
Uranus – hits the coldest temperatures of any planet. Uranus makes one trip around the Sun every 84 Earth years. It has 27 moons.
Neptune – it is the most distant planet from the sun. A year on Neptune lasts 165 Earth years. It is named after the Roman god of the sea and has 6 faint rings.
This is great, Elvin. You have taught us so much about the solar system! Fantastic! Enjoy this sunny afternoon. Mrs Bacon 🙂
Olivia’s Science:
I know the planets because I have a mnemonic that I learned from Maddie Moate You Tube program last week when they did Space( we looked up what mnemonic means!)
My – Mercury
Very – Venus
Excellent – Earth
Method – Mars
just – Jupiter
Speeds – Saturn
Up – uUranus
Naming – Neptune
Mercury is closest to the sun. You can sometimes see Mercury in the sky at night. Mercury diameter is 4.880 km
Venus ‘s atmosphere reflects the suns light like a huge mirror. It takes longer for Venus to rotate once than it does for it to orbit the sun. This means that on Venus a day is longer than a year! it is the hottest planet in the solar system
Mars has two moons that we know about. On Mars scientists believe that there are living creatures because Curiosity and the other robots have discovered that there are ice caps on Mars and where there is water you find life. It is a very dusty planet
Jupiter is a gas giant.. It is the biggest planet in the solar system. Jupiter has lots of storms but one the scientists have discovered has been going on longer than anyone can remember and is called the Great Red Spot
Saturn is a gas giant the same as Jupiter and it has gas rings and is called the RInged Planet. .Saturn spins very quickly taking just 10 hours to go round. As a result the gases in it’s atmosphere are flung near it’s equator.
Uranus is made of mostly hydrogen gas, with helium and other gases. Uranus has rings like Saturn. They were first discovered from earth in 1977. The planet spins on its side.
Neptune’s blue-ish appearance comes from the methane gas in it’s atmosphere which has a blue-ish colour. Neptune is the 4th of the gas planets and it spins once every 16 hours.
I have done TT rockstars, all the White Rose Maths and we have sung Wake Up today as well as doing Cosmic Yoga instead of Joe Wicks
Hi Olivia. You have had such a productive day! I love the mnemonic idea and think I may pinch it to help me remember too (if that’s ok with you?). I was thinking of the 2 M planets, and ‘My’ having an m and y just like in Mercury. That can be my reminder! You have taught us so much about the solar system. Thank you. Fantastic work. Have a restful afternoon in the sunshine. Mrs Bacon 🙂
It’s ok with me Mrs Bacon!!
thank you mrs bacon xx
