Wednesday 22nd April – Years 4/5/6

Hola Cedar, Rowan, Sycamore, Hawthorn, Beech and Larch,

Your daily tasks are posted below. I have also put the direct links in the tasks at the bottom of the post so you can click them and it should take you directly there. We really enjoyed receiving your writing, songs, maps and reading your comments on the blog.

We will be using a range of amazing resources that have been created for us to make learning from home a little easier. All of the following websites have daily lessons and you can select your year group and work through. We would suggest working though them in order.

We are hoping the children will need less support from an adult through the use of these resources too. You will need to pick lessons for the children though please, rather than giving the broad overall website.

The resources are:

White Rose

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/

National Oak Academy

https://www.thenational.academy/

BBC Bitesize

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/dailylessons

If you particularly like any of these resources you can complete these as your daily lessons. Your teachers would love to see the work you are completing at home. You can email them direct using these emails.

miss.taylor@wfps.org.uk             miss.lowe@wfps.org.uk                miss.spaven@wfps.org.uk

We can’t wait to hear how you have got on with your daily tasks.

Good morning Amy. First to post today! What did you read? Would you recommend it, and if so to any particular age group and why? Maybe instead try the literacy comprehension challenge. You just need to follow the steps on the blog. Have a good day. Mrs Bacon 🙂

    9 x 7 > 8 x 7
    48/2 < 48/4
    300 x 2 = 20 x 30

    1500 – 565 = 935 (more boys)

For the third one I was very confused and couldn't work it out.

Well done Isaac, just check the second calculation – what are the answers to 48 / 2 and 48/ 4?

For the second question, well done you’ve completed the first step and told me how many boys there are = 935
Now can you work out how many MORE boys than girls there are? What’s the difference between the number of girls and the number of boys?

Finally for question 3, I will give you a clue and see if you can work out the rest – ‘Leon’s number is 7 more than Sophie’s’ and my clue is that the pink bar that is shown represents 14 (2 lots of 7). Can you work out the rest now?

      Well done!

    9×7 >8×7
    48/2 >48/4
    300×2=20×30

    1500-565 = 935
    935-565 = 370 There are 370 more boys

Mr Patels number is 42. If leo’s number is 7 more than Sophie’s then using the bottom diagram Sophies 1/3 number must be 14 therefore Mr Patels number is 3 X 14 = 42

Is the national oak academy supposed to be on newspapers for year 6? On the sheet it says setting description but I don’t know if that is for another year. Should I do the other English activity that is there if it doesn’t work or should I just do the newspaper one?

There are 8 different planets rotating around the Sun
who was made by these satellites becoming a massive star
First in the line is Mercury which hasn’t got any moons or any rings
next is Venus which is the second brightest natural object in the sky
it was named after a roman Goddess of love and beauty
the Earth used to have dinosaurs but know it is our turn
it also has a powerful magnetic field
Mars is next and rocky and red
Jupiter is massive and can never become a star
Saturn is brown gassy and could not be tread
Uranus is a gas giant it also has rings
Neptune is the most distant planet and has the faintest rings

English was learning about verbs, Maths was rounding numbers up and down in tens, hundreds, thousands, and tens of thousands and Science was about light sources. I had to do some little experiments for this like shining a torch at different objects to see what happened.

A place in space so far away
Eight planets revolving dusk till dawn

    Mercury is first in line
Venus is known for its bright shine
Earth a world that's yours and mine
Now it brings us to Mars the fourth in line

Mercury – is the smallest planet in the Solar System. It is the closest planet to the sun. Mercury’s temperatures can go between -173 Celsius at night to 427 Celsius during the day.
Venus- is the second planet from the sun. It is the second brightest object in the sky. Venus is hotter than Mercury despite being further away from the sun.
Earth- is the third planet from the sun. 70% of the Earth’s Surface is covered in water. Earth is the only planet that wasn’t named after a Greek or Roman god or goddess.
Mars – is the second smallest planet in the solar system. Mars is sometimes called the Red Planet because of the brownish red color of its surface. A year on Mars lasts 687 Earth days.
Jupiter – is the fifth planet from the sun and the largest in the Solar System. It is the fastest spinning planet in the solar system.
Saturn – is the second largest planet in the solar system. It has 62 moons. It is best known for the bright, beautiful rings that circle its equator.
Uranus – hits the coldest temperatures of any planet. Uranus makes one trip around the Sun every 84 Earth years. It has 27 moons.
Neptune – it is the most distant planet from the sun. A year on Neptune lasts 165 Earth years. It is named after the Roman god of the sea and has 6 faint rings.

    Olivia’s Science:
I know the planets because I have a mnemonic that I learned from Maddie Moate You Tube program last week when they did Space( we looked up what mnemonic means!)
    My – Mercury
    Very – Venus
    Excellent – Earth
    Method – Mars
    just – Jupiter
    Speeds – Saturn
    Up – uUranus
    Naming – Neptune

Mercury is closest to the sun. You can sometimes see Mercury in the sky at night. Mercury diameter is 4.880 km
Venus ‘s atmosphere reflects the suns light like a huge mirror. It takes longer for Venus to rotate once than it does for it to orbit the sun. This means that on Venus a day is longer than a year! it is the hottest planet in the solar system
Mars has two moons that we know about. On Mars scientists believe that there are living creatures because Curiosity and the other robots have discovered that there are ice caps on Mars and where there is water you find life. It is a very dusty planet
Jupiter is a gas giant.. It is the biggest planet in the solar system. Jupiter has lots of storms but one the scientists have discovered has been going on longer than anyone can remember and is called the Great Red Spot
Saturn is a gas giant the same as Jupiter and it has gas rings and is called the RInged Planet. .Saturn spins very quickly taking just 10 hours to go round. As a result the gases in it’s atmosphere are flung near it’s equator.
Uranus is made of mostly hydrogen gas, with helium and other gases. Uranus has rings like Saturn. They were first discovered from earth in 1977. The planet spins on its side.
Neptune’s blue-ish appearance comes from the methane gas in it’s atmosphere which has a blue-ish colour. Neptune is the 4th of the gas planets and it spins once every 16 hours.

I have done TT rockstars, all the White Rose Maths and we have sung Wake Up today as well as doing Cosmic Yoga instead of Joe Wicks

Hi Olivia. You have had such a productive day! I love the mnemonic idea and think I may pinch it to help me remember too (if that’s ok with you?). I was thinking of the 2 M planets, and ‘My’ having an m and y just like in Mercury. That can be my reminder! You have taught us so much about the solar system. Thank you. Fantastic work. Have a restful afternoon in the sunshine. Mrs Bacon 🙂

    Maths:-

    1)
    9 x 7 > 8 x 7
    48 / 2 > 48 / 4
    300 x 2 = 20 x 30

    2) In the school there are 370 more boys.

    3) Mr Patel’s number was 42.

    White Rose Maths :-

    1) a) You have to colour 2 squares
    b) You have to 2 squares
    c) You have to colour 20 squares
    d) You have to colour 90 squares

    2) 40/100 = 4/10 = 0.4

    3) a) 1 wholes and 23/100 = 1.23
    b) 3 wholes and 55/100 = 3.55
    c) 2 wholes and 7/10 = 2.7

    4) a) 2 wholes and 15/100
For the first 2 wholes you have to colour all of them. Then the last whole should only have 15 shaded.
    b) 3 wholes and 7/10For the first 3 wholes you have to colour all of them. Then the last whole should have 70 shaded.

    5) a) 1.3 would go on the 3rd line
1.6 would go on th 6th line
1.85 would go in the middle of 1.8 and 1.9
