Thursday 23rd April – Year 1

Dear Year One,

Another beautiful day of home learning and we hope you are able to enjoy plenty of time outside. We have enjoyed reading some of your emails to us – please keep it up, we like hearing about what you are doing with your learning.

Activity 1 PE.  You might be enjoying Joe Wicks or may prefer to spend some time doing some stretching and balancing exercises. Can you stretch and hold these for 5 seconds each time. and repeat 8 times?
Standing still with feet a little apart, touch your toes without bending your knees. Does it get easier? Next, make yourself into a big star shape, then scrunch up into a ball. After these stretches, try to make some interesting balances with your body. Can you create a tall balance, a wide balance and a low balance? Take care, you need to be stable. Start with 3 body parts touching the ground and then move to 2.

Have a glass of water and a few deep breaths!

Activity 2 Literacy.  Today is St Georges Day. St George is the Patron Saint for England.

You can find out more about it on the CBBC website. One video is about why we celebrate St Georges Day. Then you could watch the video which is about getting ready for St George’s day. There is also a poem about England and we thought you may want to create your own acrostic poem so here is a video from Mrs Rich to show you how you can do this.

Lastly, one of the CBBC activities is a quiz that you may want to do after you have found out about St Georges’s Day. There is only an idea but see how you get on today. There are also some craft ideas. You may want to make your own flag which you may remember

Activity 3 Maths.  We are going to continue to use our White Rose videos and do the follow-up activity as well today.

Today can you look at Summer 1. Week 1 – Lesson 4  This is on halving quantities and halving numbers. Perhaps you could make up some of your own questions and answer them?

What is half of   2, 4, 6, 8, 10?      12, 14, 16, 18, 20?       100, 50, 36, 26, 66?     Choose a colour that you feel you can do by yourself.

Have a good day and do what you can as we understand days can become very busy sometimes!

Best wishes from the Year One Team.
