Year 1- Week continuing from 28th April

Dear Year One,

Thank you for sending messages about your home learning. It is lovely to keep in touch.

We look forward to hearing from all of you this week please if we haven’t already, either on the blog or on our email addresses.

We will be setting the rest of the learning activities today and then you can do them over the week, when it suits you.

Phonics– See Mrs Felstead’s phonic videos.

Maths- We will be continuing to work through the White Rose work. Here are the details again from yesterdays blog.

Literacy– This week we would like you to try and retell the story of the Elves and the Shoemaker using a story map. You should be able to do this independently now as we have practised this in school. Remember you draw simple pictures to make you remember parts of the story and draw an arrow on to the next part of the story. For example, you could draw two unhappy faces to represent the shoemaker and his wife and then a piece of leather and then a shoe that has been made. Have a think. It is just to help you remember the sequence of the story.

If you want to challenge yourself you could write the story too over the week.

Here are some ideas that might help you with your story map and story challenge. They are examples that you may wish to look at.

Here our some other activities from the wider curriculum for you to do over the week.

Activity 1– Can you draw, paint or create a model of your own design for a shoe. It can be made out of anything you have at home or you could draw and label it. It could be any design, any colur, it could be worn for any purpose. Be as creative and adventurous as you wish to be! This link may give you some ideas for a design.

Shoe designs

Activity 2– Can you find out how shoes are made? Here is a lovely video to watch. I wonder in you recognise any tools from our story this week. Look closely.

Video-How are shoes made?

You might want to explore more about shoemaking as many shoes were and are still made in Northampton.

We are lucky to have the shoe museum and although we cannot visit it, it has a website which you may want to look at to find out more about shoes.

I wonder if shoes were ever made for elephants? There are some pictures on this website on the shoe museum which might help you find out.

Here is a link to the  Shoe Museum website

Activity 3– Can you think about which materials could be used to make different shoes? This video link may help you.

Shoes and materials

We may add some more simple activities to this if you need more activities but only do want to.

We will add them to this main weekly Year One post. This is our first week of organising it in this way so please bear with us!

There will be stories and whole school activities too so please check the main school blog.

We look forwarding to hearing from you.

The Year One Team.
