Year 5 – Week beginning Monday 11th May

Hello Hawthorn and Sycamore,

We hope you had a wonderful long weekend with your family celebrating VE day. Are you ready for another week of learning?

This week there are 5 maths and English lessons to complete. Try to complete one a day – we know this isn’t possible for everyone – so aim for at least 3. Furthermore, it is best to follow the lessons in order, so don’t worry if you are not on the week set on the blog.

This week we’ve also included SPaG, science, Spanish and music.

Thank you for all your thoughtful emails; it really does make our day reading your comments, seeing pictures and videos of you and your work. Once again, can you either contact us on the blog or through our email by Friday.

Hi. The White Rose Maths website says to check with the school whether they have a subscription in order to access the worksheets. It seems they are no longer available for free. Does WFPS have a subscription?

I have completed the national oak academy task but I couldn’t get onto whiterosemaths.com and I had the same problem yesterday.
    Here is my science:

    Igneous Rock
    How is it formed?
Magma comes out of the earth’s surface from volcanos. We get it when the magma cools down and forms to be a solid. It can either for above or below the surface. Above the ground – magma cools down slowly and that makes Tuff and Basalt; below the ground-magma cools down fastly
and with that we get granite.

What types of igneous rock are there?
It is catagorized by how it actually formed. The exact location of where the rock forms determines what type of igneous rock it is.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your day and I hope to see you soon.

Great work Jaidon – it is fantastic to hear you are completing all your learning. Learning a new language is hard and they say practise and repetition is the best way. Maybe you could re-watch the lesson and see if you find it easier the next time. I am using the duolingo app to help me learn some Spanish and think it is great. Maybe you could try that? https://www.duolingo.com/
Well done for your amazing work.

    Maths
I have done Bronze silver gold and platinum.

    SPAG
I have completed semicolons and colons and got 80%.

    Science
I found out how a igneous rock is formed. Magma travels through a crack (the earths crust), then it goes where a volcano has formed. It creates lava which then hardens to make igneous rocks.

    Spanish
I have learned the alphabet and numbers in Espaniol.

I’am doing stargazing today at night.

    Dear Eduard

I am so impressed with your learning behaviour!
Isn’t it interesting that igneous rock is linked to volcanoes? Can you find out where the ‘ring of fire’ is? Why are so many volcanoes located in this region?
How was the star gazing? Did you see any particular constellation?
    Well done again,
    Mrs Byfield
