Year 5 – Week beginning Monday 18th May

UPDATE: Mini books

Just to let you all know that this is a fun creative task and it can be on any topic you choose. The British Library weblink below tells you how to make your minibook and then you could fill it with a story, poems, a recipe – anything you choose. You can then tweet or email your book to the British Library and they are hoping to ask an illustrator to draw a bookshelf of mini books. Wouldn’t it be amazing if one of our books was featured?

Here is our WW2 mini book and some mini books on aeroplanes…

Hello Year 5,

Thank you for all of those who have emailed us with your news. We love reading messages, seeing photos or video messages – you’ve been singing, reading poetry, playing instruments, baking and investigating! Remember that the story COMPETITION closes on Friday so please email your entries in before then (maybe the willow tree looks like this?).

If your parents haven’t received an email from us with your report please can you ask them to email us so we know where to send them using: miss.taylor@wfps.org.uk or mrs.byfield@wfps.org.uk

There are up to 5 English and maths lessons for you to complete. There is also a link for the worksheet and answers for each maths lesson. We’ve included SpAG, science, geography and a special art task for you.

Remember the Northamptonshire Virtual Games at  https://www.northamptonshiresport.org/school-games, the WFPS family tasks and the class reader videos.

We’d love to receive an email from you before Friday when half term starts – tell us which books you are reading!

We miss you all very much. Take care,

Miss Taylor and Mrs Byfield

Tell us in an email or on the blog what you learnt about this different type of rock. Some of you might be future geologists!

Task 2 Geography – Sustainability and plastics

This is a topic that is close to all our hearts at Weston Favell. Before lockdown we explored different renewable energy sources and how they could reduce climate change. Plastic is having a massive impact on our world; thinking back to the island where Kensuke was completely self-sufficient. Do we really need all the items in our household? Could we reduce the plastic in our lives? What is your view? Enjoy this live lesson from BBC Blue Planet.

Task 3 Art – Create a mini book

The British Library is asking all children to create a mini book as a record of this time in lockdown. The library is asking children to share their homemade miniature books with its Twitter account @BL_Learning using the hashtag #DiscoveringChildrensBooks, or send them by email to learning@bl.uk. It will commission an illustrator to create a virtual bookshelf to display the work.

Metamorphic rocks are formed from other rocks that are changed because of heat or pressure. Earth movements can cause rocks to be deeply buried or squeezed. As a result, the rocks are heated and put under great pressure . They do not melt, but the minerals they contain are changed chemically, forming metamorphic rocks.

Just to let you know that I received the first entry into the competition today. You have until Friday 22nd May. There is a clear winner at the moment 🙂
We have been making a mini book here this morning. We think it might be a WW2 diary. I will post a photo soon.

      Hi Rhys
Great to hear you are working so hard.
Why don’t you make yourself a weekly timetable? You can then schedule in each maths and literacy lesson and tick them off when they are completed?
Did you enjoy the science lesson? How do you think we could reduce our plastic use?

Morning Amy. Sorry I missed this question yesterday.
The mini book can be on any topic you like! It is meant to be a fun task. Here at home we have created a war diary. My friends have created mini books about aeroplanes.
I will update the blog with some photos to give you ideas – you can also watch the videos of famous authors on the webpage…
Hope you can enjoy the sun today.
